Here are some instructions on how to connect H.323 clients (Polycom, Tandberg, ...) to EVO and AdHoc meetings. To connect an H.323 client to an EVO meeting: -------------------------------------------- Go to http://evo.caltech.edu/ . In the center, click on "Start". Or "Register", if you don't have an account. Enter your EVO username and password. Join a Meeting Room by clicking on it. In the Koala window, click on "Call" (the phone receiver) and there on "Call H.323/SIP client". In the "Call H.323/SIP client" window, click on "Advanced", and enter your H.323 client information; i.e., E.164_Alias@Gatekeeper, e.g. 201130@gk1.es.net, in the "H.323 Address" field; see below for the Aliases and Gatekeeper of several OU video conference clients. Also, change the "Bandwidth" to 384 Kbps, and check the button "Connection through Panda". Then click the phone icon to make the call. To bridge an ECS/ESNET AdHoc meeting with an EVO meeting: -------------------------------------------------------- Same as above, but enter the Meeting_ID@Gatekeeper instead, e.g. 8836727@gk1.es.net or 887984372@gk1.es.net . To call into an EVO or ECS/ESNET AdHoc meeting via a phone bridge: ----------------------------------------------------------------- To call into the EVO phone bridge, in the US call 626-395-2112, or at BNL call 631-344-6100, or at CERN call +41 22 76 71400, and then the EVO Meeting ID (NOT the ESNET AdHoc ID), and then #. Or you can call into the ESNET phone bridge, it's 510-423-9220, and then dial the ESNET AdHoc ID, like 8836727, and then #. To connect to an ECS/ESNET AdHoc meeting (without using EVO at all): ------------------------------------------------------------------- Select "Video Call", press Enter. Make sure "Speed" is set to 768, not to 2x64 or whatever. In the number field (not Extension), dial the AdHoc conference number, which will start with "88..." Press Enter. Look at http://www.ecs.es.net/ for more information about IP conferencing. Again, the system has to be registered with the ESNET Gatekeeper (gk1.es.net) in order to be able to use AdHoc video. To connect with Ekiga or XMeeting, type h323:8836727@gk1.es.net h323:887984372@gk1.es.net (or whatever your 88... meeting number is) into the top connection window, and then press Call (immediately to the right). To patch a phone connection into a Video meeting (only on the polycom): ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Select "Telephone", press Enter. Make sure a phone line is hooked into the polycom. In the number field, enter "81" and then area code and number to call -- or just "8" and a local number -- and then press "Call". If you need to add additional numbers later, you can do that as required. To call into the polycom in room 365 by phone, dial (405)325-3961x36367. The phone number of the conference area's speaker phone in room 365 is (405)325-3961x36366. And the phone number of the Conference Room 319 is (405)325-3961x36319. OLD: To connect an H.323 client to a VRVS meeting: ------------------------------------------------- Login to ouhep14, or use your laptop, if it's setup for VRVS -- or any other machine that's setup for VRVS. Start Mozilla by clicking on the Mozilla icon. Go to http://www.vrvs.org/ . On the top, click on "login". Enter your VRVS username and password. If you don't have one, create one. On the left side of the VRVS page, click on "ENTER". Click on the Meeting Room you'd like to join. After the meeting room window and the chat console appear, click the green button "Connect MBone Tools" in the meeting room window. If that button says "Connect H.323" instead, click on the "Client Setup" tab and click "MBone". Then go back to the "Main" tab and click on "Connect MBone Tools". Go back to the "Client Setup" tab and click "H.323" and check "Gatekeeper" on, and enter the Alias and Gatekeeper information of the polycom you'd like to invite to join from the EVO section above. If there is a problem with a gatekeeper, unclick "Gatekeeper" and use the direct IP address in the "Host IP/Alias" field instead. For the E.164 Alias to work, the system has to be registered with the ESNET Gatekeeper (gk1.es.net). Look at http://www.ecs.es.net/ for more information on how to do that. Make sure the "Bandwidth" is set to 384; 768 doesn't seem to work with the video equipment we have. The "Frame Rate" can be either 12/15 or 25/30, as far as I know. Then click back on the "Main" tab and on "Connect H.323". To add more polycoms, go back to the "Client Setup" tab and enter the next polycom's information, then back to "Main" and click on "Connect H.323" again, and so on. If you have problems inviting other H.323 clients, try to change your VRVS Reflector. Click on "Profile" (bottom left of the main VRVS page after you're logged in), then on the Machine tab on the top, then "MODIFY", and follow the directions to set the Reflector. I've had the best experience with the CALTECH Reflector so far. To quit, click "Exit" on the meeting room window -- quit VIC and RAT also if they don't exit automatically -- then exit Mozilla, and then log off ouhep14. To bridge an AdHoc meeting with a VRVS meeting: ---------------------------------------------- Click the "Client Setup" tab in the VRVS window, then click the "H.323" radio button, then check the "MCU" button on the right, then make sure the "Gatekeeper" button is checked there and the Gatekeeper you are using is gk1.es.net (see http://www.ecs.es.net/ for details on how to register and use this service) and then enter 8836727 (88DOSAR) -- or whatever 88... number you're trying to connect to -- in the "Host IP/Alias" field. Note: 82 - 85 numbers don't seem to work with VRVS. Then click the "Main" tab again, and then "Connect H.323". Then you should see a new video and audio participant, which will always show whoever is speaking in the AdHoc meeting. And of course other AdHoc participants just have to dial 8836727 on their polycom. And if someone wants to call in on the phone, it's 510-423-9220, and again dial 8836727, and then #.
